Braintree high schools are set to be spruced up after being awarded a share of a £376million Government pot.

Tabor Academy, Alec Hunter Academy and Notley High School will all have building work paid for in 2015-16 following an announcement by the Minister of State for Schools on Thursday.

Tabor Academy will have its roof repaired, a toilet block at Alec Hunter will be refurbished and flat roofs at Notley High School will be partially replaced.

The Condition Improvement Fund is the last cash this parliament will allocate for school building improvements - £55million of which will be pumped into schools in the South East.

Education Secretary Nicky Morgan said: "The money provided through the condition improvement fund will help ensure that even more children have access to the best possible facilities and learn in an environment that gives them the knowledge and skills to succeed in the global race."

Schools Minister David Laws said: "Thanks to Condition Improvement Fund thousands more pupils and their teachers across England will benefit from safe, high-quality classrooms."
