A church is appealing for more money to repair its “sieve”-like roof.

Parishioners are desperately trying to raise a further £16,000 needed to repair the roof of the All Saints Church in Stisted after woodpeckers pecked away at the spire.

The church was given a £197,700 grant by the Heritage Lottery Fund for urgent repair work, after experts likened the spire to a sieve.

Despite this, more money is still needed to complete the repair works.

Hedingham Singers member and church user Elizabeth Vince said: “Although we were given the money, the cost rises all the time so we now have a shortfall.

“I decided to put on a concert to try and help.

“The roof doesn’t look too bad but it leaks badly when it rains.”

The concert will be at the church on April 25 from 7.30pm.

The programme includes a selection of choral and modern classics for all the family to enjoy.

For the last half hour of the concert, there are songs to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the Second World War with audience participation.

Tickets are £10, including light refreshments.
