A call has been made to turn unwanted council land into a car park after it was declared surplus to requirements.

Essex County Council has revealed it is open to offers for land off Bellfield Close, in Witham, which it had set aside for Chipping Hill Infant School before it moved.

Town councillor Michael Lager said it could be a solution to Witham's parking space shortage following complaints from shoppers and commuters.

He said: "It makes a lot of sense to have a car park there as it is is a triangular piece of land that is just growing weeds."
