A BRAINTREE man appeared on TV after deciding to have his tongue cut in two during a television documentary.
Wayne Fitzpatrick, of Gulls Croft, appeared in Channel 4 show Body Mods undergoing the bifurcation procedure which, he says, is less painful than you might think.
The former Alec Hunter pupil said: “I have always wanted to have it done but I didn’t really go for it straight away because I couldn’t find the right person to have it done by.
“Then a friend gave me the name of someone and I just decided to go for it.”
The warehouse worker travelled to Wolverhampton to have the procedure at the Punctured tattoo and body modification parlour.
The 32-year-old, who also has 52 piercings, said: “There were clamps either side of my tongue and they checked to make sure the veins were out of the way.
“Then he just got a scalpel and cut it down the middle. Afterwards he unleashed the clamps.
“There were six little bleeds but it never actually bled that much, I have seen pictures of people bleeding quite a lot.
“Eating afterwards was a bit uncomfortable. It took about a month for it to heal fully and I was on soup for about a week and a half.
“But it was quite a cool experience."
