A failing secondary school in Braintree has been placed in special measures after a damning Ofsted report.
Inspectors rated Tabor Academy, in Panfield Lane, as inadequate in the quality of teaching, leadership and management and pupils’ achievement after they found frequent teacher changes “confused and frustrated” students.
The behaviour of pupils was rated as requiring improvement because inspectors found that there was too much “low level” disruption in classes, which influenced other students’ learning.
Following the report, executive principal Matthew Slater and Trevor Averre-Beeson, chief executive officer of the Lilac Sky Academy Trust, wrote to parents asking for suggestions for a new name for the academy.
The letter stated that the new name, which “seems appropriate and creates a significant break with the recent past”, will be in place from March.
The report, which was published on Tuesday, added that pupil’s progress in maths has declined and too much teaching is ineffective.
See this week's Braintree and Witham Times for a full report plus reaction from parents.
