A lorry driver has been reported for driving offences after the lorry shed its load of plastic.
The long sheets covered a Vauxhall Astra on the other side of the road between Braintree Road and Collingwood Road, Witham, at lunchtime.
Two other vehicles were also damaged.
The 42-year-old has been reported for carrying an insecure load.
An East of England Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We received a number of 999 calls just after noon to reports of a traffic incident.
"We sent an ambulance officer and an ambulance and treated a male patient in his 60s for a shoulder injury.
"The patient was not taken to hospital."
Essex Police said no-one else was hurt and a 41-year-old man from Scunthorpe is currently being interviewed by police.
Sergeant Colin Shead from Chelmsford Roads Policing Unit said: "It was a miracle that no-one was injured and that the load didn't fall down into the railway line."
A recovery operation is currently underway and local diversions are in place.
Train services are unaffected.
Hedingham Buses said its buses are terminating and restarting at the surgery in Collingwood Road as Service 91/91B is currently unable to serve Morrisons or the train station.
There are also delays on the First Buses Service 132.
