Essex County Council is not supporting a village school’s attempt to create a new £30million building.
Honywood Community Science School, in Coggeshall, planned to relocate and for 350 homes to be built on its site in Westfield Drive to finance the project.
The council retains the freehold on the Westfield Drive land and leased it to the school for 125 years from 2011.
Ray Gooding, cabinet member for education, has decided not to support the project because of concerns there would not be enough primary school places for the children living in the new homes.
