Police are launching a crack down on cycle thieves targetting stations.

Last month, The Times revealed that already this year nine bikes have been stolen from Witham Railway Station, compared to only three in the whole of last year.

The British Transport Police (BTP), who deal with any crime at stations, have planned a cycle surgery event on Thursday between 4pm and 7pm, where cyclists can have their bikes marked for free and will be given crime prevention advice.

BTP Inspector Mark Hook said: “We are committed to reducing cycle crime at local railway stations and are working closely with Abellio Greater Anglia to improve safety at stations and catch offenders."
