Parents have set up a campaign group against the proposed merger of Witham’s secondary schools.

More than 40, predominately parents of children at Maltings Academy, met at The Railway pub on Chipping Hill on Monday night and created the Witham Against Merging Academies (WAMA) action group.

They are opposed to Maltings and New Rickstones Academy merging into a superschool.

The group aims to officially complain to both schools, the governing bodies and to John Nash, the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for schools.

It was also suggested that complaints should be sent to MP Priti Patel and the Prime Minister.

Parents raised concerns about transport, bullying, freedom of choice and the prospect of their children’s education being adversely affected.
