Proposals to build a huge housing estate the size of the Maltings Lane development in Witham have been submitted.
Developers Redrow Homes Ltd hope to build 850 homes, a primary school with a two or three-form entry and a local centre with employment facilities on land next to Lodge Farm, off Hatfield Road.
The developer has applied for a screening opinion from Braintree Council to decide whether or not a detailed environmental report will be needed when the company applies for full planning permission.
The proposals also include a public open space with allotments and an access point off Hatfield Road.
The land was designated for 700 homes in the council’s most recent Local Development Plan, which was scrapped in the summer.
