Walking from his home in Coggeshall to Rome saw Brian Mooney publish his book, A Long Way For A Pizza.

Now, the award-winning journalist and author has put his walking boots back on to complete his 1,300 mile walk in reverse, with his resulting book The Wrong Way For A Pizza, available this month.

Brian, who completed his pilgrimage from his home to Rome in 2010, was just winding down from his first trip when a friend made a teasing comment: “In the old days, pilgrims didn’t have the luxury of flying back. They walked home!”

Two years later and Brian packed his rucksack, laced up his walking boots and set off to make the journey in reverse.

The Wrong Way for A Pizza is an account of his ten-week walk from the banks of the Tiber to the banks of the Blackwater - a mirror-image of A Long Way For A Pizza.

Along the way, the author bumps into the ghosts of his outward journey, getting told by Rome-bound pilgrims that he is walking the wrong way but with the sun behind him lighting up the Tuscan landscape he revels in the different horizons.

He crosses paths with a family on a donkey cart, an art dealer, a photographer, former Guards officer, a ferry man, university teacher and an ex-journalist - and as before, he seeks out exotic ladies to massage his tired limbs.

Brian’s account of his journey is available this month, published by Thorogood.
