Shocked residents photographed two hot air balloons coming in to land over their houses.

The pictures, taken on September 30, show the balloons over Blackwater Way and Doubleday Gardens, Braintree.

John Parish, of Doubleday Gardens, who enjoys seeing the balloons fly over, sent in the picture of one which he said was about thirty feet above his neighbours roof.

He said the balloon was lower than usual, and it was low close enough for the pilot to shout down and ask if it was ok to land in a nearby field.

And Margaret Savill, of Blackwater Way, said: “I was surprised to see a hot air balloon apparently skim across the roofs of our houses in Blackwater Way and Valley Road.

But a spokesperson for the British School of Ballooning said it is quite normal for the balloons to be low when they are coming into land.
