Braintree: Fishy business in town centre fountain

An antiques dealer who put ten goldfish in a town centre fountain was upset to discover they had been removed by council workers.

Les Mizen, 77, wanted parents and children to be able to enjoy the fish, which he placed in St Michael’s fountain in Braintree High Street.

But he was shocked to discover the fish had been removed from the fountain when he returned on Saturday morning.

Mr Mizen bought the goldfish for £35 from Aquapets in Chelmsford on Thursday afternoon, before getting on a bus to Braintree and dropping them into the fountain.

But the fountain’s new residents had been removed within 24 hours, as Braintree Council removed the fish on Friday.

They were probably removed for their own good. What a stupid and irresponsible thing to do.

so who exactly was he expecting to feed the fish and clean out the fountain (as I dare say it doesn't have a filtration system, the fish would get sick and die very quickly, without proper care) also there is the aspect of vandalism - with the fish attracting unwanted attention from people who may harm them - I dare say if he had told the truth when he bought them as to where they were going he would not have been allowed to buy them in the first place to stop any cruelty to the fish.
