A man has admitted causing the drugs death of a friend.

Daniel Spinks, 32, of no fixed address, admitted the manslaughter of 37-year-old Marc Clapson at his home in Davies Court, Rose Hill, Braintree, on December 27.

When he appeared at Chelmsford Crown Court this morning, Spinks also admitted being in breach of an eight-month suspended sentence handed down to him in August for possession of an offensive weapon.

Members of Mr Clapson's family were in court for the hearing and Spinks expressed his "solemn sadness" at his death to them.

Spinks was remanded in custody to be sentenced at Chelmsford Crown Court on November 8.

In the meantime, a pre-sentence report on Spinks will be completed.
