A budding photographer will have one of his snaps included in a new calendar.

David Coppen’s stunning picture of Thetford Forest was chosen as the May image in the East of England Co-operative society’s 2012 calendar competition.

Mr Coppen from Braintree was one of just five amateur photographers from Essex to win a slot in the calendar.

He took up photography as a hobby after he retired and was inspired to take his winning photo during a walk through Thetford Forest.

He describes the picture as: “having great depth, which gives the feeling that you could keep on walking forever.”

The Co-op holds an annual competition to create a calendar using images which reflect Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex.

This year it invited photography enthusiasts to submit their favourite photos which depicted the theme of East Anglian woodland scenes.
