Rail passengers were treated to a nostalgic sight.

The 70000 Britannia chugged through Witham to mark the 150th anniversary of the Great Eastern Railway Company.

The locomotive, which visited last summer, was on its way from Liverpool Street to Norwich.

Witham rail enthusiast Bob Green said: “Britannia was the first of the new Standard BR locomotives to enter service after nationalisation and did excellent work on our line throughout the 1950s.

“It was the 'flagship' of its class and was often found meeting the boat trains at Harwich.”
