There's a strange world out there that I have no place in. I had a wander around the latest Firstsite exhibition at the weekend and could find nothing that I could relate to as being art. But it is art and therefore important - and worth its place amongst us. So too is Mr Grayston's work. I haven't a clue about that either, but suspect there is an element of 'The Emperor's New Clothes' about it all. A fear of ridicule or disdane at no seeing the bauty and meaning in such work perhaps. Thankfully Firstsite had other areas of interest for me, so my visit was worthwhile and confusing, both at the same time.

Mr. Perry (his correct name) is an Essex boy and the only thing unusual about him is that he is a transvestite. But the ceramic objects he produces are genuine art, which is more than can be said of unmade beds or heaps of bricks.
It would be good if the VAF could put on an exhibition of Grayson Perry's work, but I fear the insurance would be too expensive.

Boris: why do you say Mr Perry is a transvesitite? I see no evidence?
