A farm included in the Doomsday book has lived up to its name by having its sloe berries recognised in the Good Food show.

Great Slamseys Farm, which was mentioned in 11th century document and in Old English was described as the “enclosure of the sloe (tree) hill,” is still producing the berries today.

Beth Wheaton, who has lived on the farm in Great Notley since she was five, took the leap of leaving her office job to start up Slamseys Fruit Gin last September.

The 25-year-old has now been chosen as one of four bursary awards winners whose products will be part of the summer Good Food Show in Birmingham next year.
