Braintree district: Police 999 teams could come back to district Braintree district: Police 999 teams could come back to district

The victim of a vicious armed gang attack has welcomed news that police 999 teams could be moving back to the Braintree district.

Cheryl Wray, 21, of Vicarage Close, White Notley, suffered nightmares following the attack two years ago when she was held at knifepoint, along with her fiance, by ten hooded men in a case of mistaken identity.

The cancer survivor, who moved to the village following the attack in a Braintree flat, believes it is important that victims making that call know police are nearby.

Under the police reform in March eight response team hubs were created to cover the county, with the nearest to the Braintree district being Dunmow and Stanway.

Witham suffered particularly badly under the changes as in the two months post reform there were 19 failures to meet response times in Witham, compared to 5 in the two months prior.
