Community buildings and spaces are set to be protected by a new law expected to come into force later this year.

The government legislation will force the owners of nurseries, libraries, youth centres and other assets of community value, to give groups the chance to try to buy them before they go on the market.

Braintree Council discussed the proposed process behind the Community Right to Bid project on Monday, which says a list of assets will be compiled from nominations by the local community.

This will include libraries, theatres, museums or heritage sites, community centres, youth centres, public toilets, nurseries and schools, and children’s centres.
