Witham: Funding to improve shopping parade withdrawn Witham: Funding to improve shopping parade withdrawn

Money set aside to improve a run-down parade of shops was later withdrawn because it was not deemed a priority area.

Traders at the shops in Spa Road , Witham, have complained the area needs refurbishment to attract residents to use the area.

In 2009, the Community and Housing Investment Partnership (CHIP) Fund allocated £20,000 to be spent on the Spa Road shops.

But representatives of the Humber Road Estate Community Initiative (HRECI) were told a year later the money was no longer available.

"not a priorty"?????? 1) you are quick enough to take any tax money from us braintree; 2) spa road shops are very old and no doubt you will upgrade/build new shps for all the new areas you keep building around us and 3) get on with it braintree and essex councils and do your duty to your oldest tax payers and refurbish theis area which needs it

what state does it have to be in to be a priority then. Agree Bhudeeka all BDC seem to do is take our council tax (at the same rate as Braintree but yet they have more facilities) to bankroll improvements to anywhere apart from Witham ! This area is is dire need the same as the Templars estate too !
Why does all the money seem to get take and redistributed elsewhere. we have a poor high street, no facilities such as a cinema, bowling alley or decent restaurants!

Presumably the businesses that occupy these shops are paying excessive rents as well as the Council Tax from Witham residents - can't the rent money at least be channelled into improvements?
