A mother has blasted council “bullying tactics” after twice being threatened with court action over council tax despite a settlement being reached within minutes.
Kelly Whiteley, of Orchid Avenue, Witham, who thought she could pay the tax in three instalments over the year, believes court could have been avoided over the outstanding £111.
After claiming to have reached an out of court settlement last Tuesday to pay the remainder in January, the 41-year-old returned home to find another letter again threatening court action.
Braintree Council’s website states that council tax payments must be made over ten instalments, twice yearly, or paid in full in May.
