Witham: Estate residents welcome restaurant and pub plans

Plans for a new restaurant and pub have been welcomed by residents on a housing estate.

Pub chain Marston’s has submitted an application to build on unoccupied land near the junction of Gershwin Boulevard and Hatfield Road, in Witham.

The pub, on the edge of the Maltings Lane estate, would seat up to 180 customers and would be accompanied by a 62-space car park.

It is welcome news for residents, who have long been campaigning for amenities and facilities to be built on the housing estate.

build build build, when is Braintree / Witham ever going to say "NO MORE"

The amount of acres I have seen lost to developers with the Council saying it will be good for the community, so far they have been wrong, we are still in a mess!

Nutie, couldnt agree more.If the Jack and Jenny has been closed for ages and not making a profit and no sign of another landlord interested in running it then how would the estate sustain a new pub or are they talking about revamping the Jack & Jenny ?? Pointless. How about they put a cinema on it for the whole of the area to use instead of trekking to Braintree or some decent shops in the high street of Witham.Waste of cash as usual !
