Braintree district: Business leaders welcome plans to dual A120
12:00pm Wednesday 19th September 2012 in News
Traffic blackspot, Galleys Corner
Business leaders have welcomed developers’ plans to dual parts of the A120.
The Gateway 120 Consortium unveiled plans in July to spend £128million to dual the A120 between Coggeshall and the A12 and the stretch between Bradwell and Braintree’s Galleys Corner.
It is part of landowners' proposals to build about 3,500 homes near the Marks Farm roundabout, just north of Cressing, and 7,500 in a new village dubbed West Tey.
Paul McCarthy, chairman of Braintree District Business Group’s transport infrastructure sub group, said: “Any project that delivers improvements and capacity to this vital road infrastructure is worthy of careful consideration and as such we would encourage both Braintree Council and Colchester Borough Council to review their Local Development Plans at the earliest opportunity."

It's simply un-workable to suggest that this proposed dualling of the A120 will be the solution to traffic problems in the area, as the proposed 11,000 (ELEVEN THOUSAND!!!) new houses will bring with them approximately 15,000-plus cars and their drivers! So the A12 will grind to a halt (as per usual) even more then than it does now, and the A120 will be no better off at all.
We don't want or need ANY more development in North Essex, thankyou!! Witham and Braintree have more than their fair share of proposed developments already. We are not Basildon!!

I totally agree with raptor1 and artdecofan - some people will get extremely rich over this...and then move away, please leave North Essex alone, we do not want to become Romford, Harlow, Basildon etc etc!!!

BDC should say to the 120 consortium take your brown envelopes elsewhere. We do not want them.
Those people that saw the proposed development plans a few years back were horrified and made their feelings known at the time

a solution is needed but the whole point of this proposal so that landowners can sell farmland and develpoers can get rich . The sweetner or smoke screen is then the rerouting of the A120. And to suggest it isnt is moronic. We have seen the "Toy town plans for the new villages" and they bear no relevance to real life villages .
I also wonder how many of these "business leaders live in this vicinity as well !!y
