Bus pass holders will have to apply to Essex County Council for new passes from next month.

It is taking over the running of the scheme for older or disabled residents from October 1.

The move to a central system, instead of each district council overseeing its own area, will save an estimated £900,000 over two-and-a-half years.

Anyone in Braintree district who wants to apply for a pass for the first time, or needs to replace a lost or broken one, can download an application from canigetapass.org.uk.

Forms are also available from libraries, or call 0845 2000388.

If residents already have a bus pass and it is due for renewal, provided they are at the same address they will be sent a new pass automatically.

However, if they have changed address, they should email buspass.team@essex.gov.uk or call 0845 200 0388.
