A professional footballer has swapped the changing room for the classroom as he starts his first term as a school teacher.
Former Bramston School pupil Ben Smith left school at the age of 16 and signed his first professional contract with Arsenal in 1995.
After a career spanning 17 years and 11 clubs, Ben, 33, has returned to his old school, now Maltings Academy , to work as a business and ICT teacher.
Ben started planning for the future by doing a part-time business degree in his mid-20s, but admits the switch to teaching students has been tough.
He said: “It’s been really challenging. I was going into the job quite naively. It is a case of getting in a routine - I find myself starting something and then being called away to do something else."
