Villagers hope an overhaul of the way speed limits are set will improve safety on dangerous roads.

Essex County Council has announced a comprehensive review of its speed management strategy, which could make it easier to reduce speed limits on problem roads.

Councillors in Silver End and Rivenhall hope the announcement will lead to greater road safety at notorious accident blackspots.

Variable speed limits along rural roads, which could be anything from 30mph to 60mph, have been cited as a problem.
