Companies are flocking to the district, as a record number of new companies formed between April and June this year, according to a data company.

Duport Associates Ltd, company formation agents, said 127 businesses were set up, more than any other during the same three months in previous years.

The previous record was 99 in the second quarter of 2011.

Braintree Council said only nine per cent of shops are currently empty across Braintree, Witham and Halstead, lower than the national average of 14.6 per cent.
