Witham: Commuter parking could soon be banned on estate Witham: Commuter parking could soon be banned on estate

Problems with cars blocking roads in a housing estate could finally be resolved after residents were promised a consultation.

The Moat Farm Estate is commonly used by rail commuters who park there before getting on a train at nearby Witham station.

Residents have complained that cars have blocked driveways and blocked access for emergency services and refuse vehicles.

Now Essex County Council has promised residents a six-week consultation period to give their views ahead of the proposed scheme.

Yeah right, looks like most of that lot have cars ... Sorry for being argumentative but if there's a space and your car is legal you have a right to park there ...
From personal experience, these so-called "nice people" have damaged cars and harrassed drivers, the problem caused by expensive parking NOT legally parking your car.

well done to all keep campaigning so BtreeDoormen "because there is a space" you car owners are entitled to park on it i dont think so you dont even live down these roads no one has a human right (i couldnt care less about legal rights as they are always wrong) to park down a road and if that means lots more empty roads free of awful cars i pray for that time these are residential roads not static car parks that you idiots turn them into

Well thank you for your comments, glad I have thick skin ...
Fortunately I shall concentrate on your points rather than personality ...
I wholeheartedly disagree, we all pay road tax and do not have allocated spaces in the road unless permitted thus by the local authority.
The people concerned are commuters, paying road tax, insurance tax, fuel tax then .... HUGE train fares and probably larger than average income tax due to working in the city.
The residents however, appear to be a load of pensioners (paid for by our taxes) who probably only need to get out of the carless drive to take up 8am appts in their local Dr's surgery!!
Peace and love.

I would like to point out that I live in a road with yellow lines.I fought against them . Commuters are a nuisance but when you have these lines there are times in the day when your visitors and tradesmen will also be banned.

What there needs to be is some control over the amount of commuter parking on the streets to make it safe on bends for example (Forest Road is not) and then cheaper car parks. I agree with what BtreeDoormen says about old people moaning and taking up the first appointments at the doctors (don't even get me started on that and Saturday shopping)

I'm with Yellow Peril on this ..elderly people always assume they can park outside anyone's house, such as mine in Braintree and catch the bus to Chelmsford. Now all their friends do it as well.! Why also do they need the first appointments at the Drs and Blood test departments when others have jobs to get to?, the need to shop and go to the Post Office between one and two and shop for their groceries on Saturday!
