Braintree: Calls for CCTV cameras and fencing at skatepark Braintree: Calls for CCTV cameras and fencing at skatepark

Calls have been made for CCTV cameras and fencing after a car was torched in a brand new skatebowl.

It is not yet known how much the damage to the skatebowl, off Meadowside in Braintree, will cost to repair.

It had only opened weeks earlier and was shut for more than eight hours after yobs drove a Volkswagen Polo around it and then set fire to it at 3.30am last Tuesday. **4sep** The Polo was reported stolen after a burglary at a home in Church Street, Braintree.

Braintree Council said it had no plans to install cameras or fencing.

Councillor Moia Thorogood urged people to name and shame those responsible and to call police if they see cars driving on the field near the skatepark.

She said: “It is a shame about the cameras and we are going to have to look elsewhere [for funding].

“I think the fence and cameras would help very much with anti-social behaviour.”

She believed fencing was already part of plans and is contacting Braintree Council about it.
