Braintree: Roadworks to blame for bus delays

A bus passenger claims buses on one route are being cancelled frequently, leaving people stranded.

Jill Sutton, 61, uses the 131 service, run by First, up to three times a week to travel between Cressing and Braintree.

But she said timetabled buses have failed to turn up five times in the past few weeks, especially the 9.03am bus from Tye Green Post Office.

A First spokesman said: “Due to several issues of road and engineering works along the route, service 131 was inevitably affected and resulted in cases of it running late.

“An alternative of diverting the service was discussed however this would have resulted in stops being missed and areas not being served.”

I am sorry hear about Jill's problems. I use the 70/70X service to and from Chelmsford and I also keep finding buses being cancelled (3 in the past week), leading to heavy overcrowding and late arrivals. Other passengers have also experienced cancellations on this scale as well. I have complained 3 times using the First Group web site but there has been no reply. Perhaps this newspaper can highlight the poor service this company is providing?
