Braintree: Car torched after keys burgled from home

Braintree: Car torched after keys burgled from home Braintree: Car torched after keys burgled from home

Yobs who stole car keys in a burglary and then torched the car in a newly opened skatepark have been branded disgusting.

They drove the Volkswagen Polo around the skatebowl, off Meadowside in Braintree, before setting fire to it at about 3am on Tuesday.

It is expected to cost thousands of pounds to remove the burnt out car and repair the damage to the skatepark, which was only officially opened two weeks ago.

Braintree councillor Moia Thorogood, who has been involved with the skatebowl project, believes no one who uses it will be involved in the fire.

She said: “It is disgusting.

“It is a waste of money and it could have been someone’s life."

Why the hell didn't the council put metal barriers all round Meadowside to protect the children that play on the park and would have prevented ANY vehicle from driving on it?

I would have thought a fence would have been erected for Health and Safety reasons anyway. If someone falls in there after dark they are going to sue the pants off the council for not making it safe. There is a fence round the Silver End one so why not round this one?

Plus the fact its on the braintree carnival field that has easy access for cars lorry's etc.. people at the council should of realized after the amount of drug raids, murders, abuse that has gone on over the years around the GLEBE AVENUE area surely knew it was a mistake not to put any kind of barriers or cctv. as an avid user of the skate park this has really upset me. we just cant have nice things.
