Racecourse owners believe they have addressed environmental concerns about lighting as they aim to re-open their venue.

Great Leighs Racecourse has not hosted horse racing since 2009, when the company owning the track entered administration.

But the course’s new owners are investing in site facilities as they seek to host meetings at the track as soon as possible.

Great Leighs only hosted races for nine months between April 2008 and January 2009, but received complaints from residents that floodlights at the venue were intrusive.

But racecourse chiefs believe proposed alterations will halve light spillage into the night sky and reduce energy consumption by 40%.
