Drivers are warned one lane is reported blocked on the A12 at Witham.
Essex County Council's traffic control centre said a lane is closed between junctions 22 and 21 Witham due to a police incident.
Other emergency services are also on scene.
Drivers are warned to expect delays of five minutes.
