Braintree district: warning after thefts from key safes Braintree district: warning after thefts from key safes

POLICE are warning residents to be vigilant after a spate of thefts from key safes.

Thieves targeted homes in Laurence Avenue, Witham and Thorne Road in Kelvedon on August 11.

They removed the keys safes from the outside walls of the properties and let themselves inside, taking bank cards and cash.

Police are advising to leave spare keys with neighbours rather than in a key safe.

However if this is not practical officers advise residents to use the Supra C500 model and ensure  they follow the manufacturer's guidlines.

Crime Reduction officer Stephen Armson-Smith said: "Residents should never fit and place a key safe in full view of passing pedestrians.

"If anyone is in doubt of how to fix one, they should use the manufacturer’s fitting service or a trader from Essex Trading Standards’ Buy with Confidence scheme.”

Anyone with information in connection with these burglaries is urged to contact detectives at Chelmsford police station on 101.

Why of why do some scumbags have to do these evil things and scare daylights out of older people.

I am one of those people who will no longer be using my box....but also guess I'll have to get it removed before any damage is done to my property if some scumbag feels the need to prize it off my wall !!!

I guess it was just a matter of time before some scumbags thought of this little trick.

I guess I must not only stop using my key safe, but get it removed from the wall before the wall is damaged from said scumbags removing it for me.

There has always been evil people on this world but stooping this low is just another example of the lengths some will go to.

As soon as I realised I had multi posted I sent a message to the Braintree Times asking to delete 2 messages. My internet connection was very slow earlier and appeared not to send my message..

Obviously they haven't seen my message or chose to ignore it.

But yes, I am passionate about the article, I have a key safe at my door that I won't feel comfortable using now. It was possibly just a matter of time for the rouges to cotton on to another scam.

If you have emptied the key safe, why not leave it open, then the scumbags won't jemmy it off the wall?
