Dust from road surfacing work has left residents coughing and their properties covered in dirt, it is claimed.

Peter Bryan, 64, had to see a doctor on Friday because he had struggled to breathe since chippings were put down in High Garrett, Braintree, last Tuesday.

And Barry Parker, who owns High Garrett Car Sales, was annoyed after about 12 cars on his forecourt were smothered in dust.

It got into the air and heater vents and engine fixings, and in the office and workshop.

Essex County Council apologised for any inconvenience caused by the surface dressing works.

It said drivers must adhere to the 20mph speed limit or they will cause clouds of dust.

Just to let you know, Essex County Council have NOT been in touch with any of us and the driver's are NOT causing the dust clouds, it was the machinery which caused it on Wednesday when doing the road.

Unreal how they can carry on doing the roads like this.
Even if you go slower than 20mph the stones still damage the paint work on your car, absolute joke how they can get away with this.

FIX the roads properly you monkeys!

I thought doing the roads this way was outdated and stopped a few years ago.

Maybe it had but started again as a cheaper option of resurfacing roads?
