Youngsters can now brush up on their skateboarding and BMX skills thanks to a new skate bowl on a housing estate.

The skate park, off Meadowside, in Braintree, had its grand opening on Wednesday along with a community event, where skate and BMX professional and semi-professional riders put on demonstrations.

Children on the estate called for the bowl as the nearest is the skate park at Weavers Park, in the town centre.

No mention of how many accidents have happened there already! In the picture hardly any of those people are wearing safety helmets. Loads of kids/teenagers/adult
s using it but no safety wear, that is so dangerous & asking for trouble.

All doom and Gloom
I can only see 1 scooter actually using it on the photo. Are you aware that this was a photo shoot?
Accidents will happen.
I am sure you will be the first to say "I TOLD YOU SO"
Please get a life and encourage the youth to get some exercise and enjoy themselves if they get injured then it is life’s learning curve.
Ideally yes they should all be wearing safety helmet’s but that must be up to the individual to decide.
I do believe the local newsagent commented that he would have to close the shop at 4 pm for security reasons if the skate park was built has this happened?
GO KIDS AND ENJOY YOURSELVES

It's attitudes like this that encourage children to stay indoors and play on computer games, eating junk food and ultimately getting unhealthy and suffering from obesity and related health problems.
Children need to go out and have fun in the open air and, as already mentioned, injuries are all part of growing up and learning.

Actually I do have a life that involves three teenage children, so as a parent I worry for their safety & that o their friends. I think the park is great but it is concrete that they are using! I wouldn't want someone ending up with a serious head injury. I was stating a fact at the time, but the council could have showed some support towards protective clothing. Watching those that are using takes your breath away with some of there amazing moves but obviously as a parent you can also see what might happen.

Especially when there are idiots using it for riding motorbikes on as they were a few days ago.
Would still like to know what the council are doing about all the rubbish that gets left and then blown over our gardens!
They tell me their cleaning team will look into it....but nothing done as far as I have seen.
Would be nice if the people used the bins provided and didnt cause problems instead of proving the doubters right

Funny that that they have to use concrete to build a Skate park
Why did they not use a much softer material in case they fall off?
Could the answer be that they would not be able to ride the skate boards as it would sink in to the track??
If you are afraid for your children’s safety and do not want them to enjoy life then ban your kids from using it.
I will certainly encourage mine they have enjoyed Weavers Park Track

firstly I'm a skateboard teacher of 2 years. it is down to the parents to make sure there kids use safety equipment when they go skating, scooting, bmx or rollerblading.
with any of these sports there is always a danger no matter where you go, if its in a skate park made of concrete, metal or wood. you can hurt yourself just as bad (previous experience)
when a person gets to a certain level they feel comfortable enough not to wear pads helmets however dangerous it may be! it happens all around the world not just braintree. if you want more info, advice or a point in the right direction for safety equipment then come see me down the park. i think that the kids should be encouraged to wear the safety equipment or the next thing we will know is that some parent is suing the council as their "darling child" has broke their arm, collar bone or leg. Fortunately the council has the rules on a sign there so the injured party wouldn't have a leg to stand on (sorry for the pun)

fortunately you skate the park at your own risk!! and all rights are wavered when it comes to accidents. thats the point of a skatepark.. if a kid down the bmx track fell off his bike and broke his arm would it be right to sue the council. or if a drunk man in the pub staggers over and hits his head, has he any right to sue the landlord!! i dont think so.. as i said to bexy123 its down to the parents to sort this out.... not the child.
