A night shelter plans to run educational and training courses for general members of the public as well as the homeless.
Braintree Emergency Night Shelter in the town’s High Street will use a £6,020 Big Lottery Fund grant to buy computers and office equipment.
The shelter has already helped three homeless people move into more permanent housing since opening in April.
However, it is still waiting for Braintree Council to make a decision on planning permission for changing the use of the flat.
And a leaking roof has delayed the opening of the cafe beneath the shelter, which will help fund its work.
