Braintree is bucking the trend with a drop in burglary, robbery and violent injury crime rates.

The latest figures released by the Office for National Statistics showed a drop in nine out of the 12 crime categories for the district.

But Essex wide figures for the entire force show a rise in 10 out of the 12 categories with drug offences and criminal damage the only areas which have seen a fall in the crime rate.

Between April 2011 and March 2012 there were 254 house burglaries compared to 313 in the same period the year before.

In the same periods robbery dropped from 31 to29, criminal damage also dropped from 1254 to 1081, car crime dropped from 834 to 670 and drug offences dropped from 345 to 210.

The only rises between the two years were sexual offences which was up by five to 97 and other theft offences which rose from 1518 to 1588.
