Braintree: Torchbearer heads to school

Braintree: Braintree:

The Olympic torch has been on a special journey through Braintree. Torchbearer Kate Malyon, 45, of Stubbs Lane, has visited children in various pre-schools and primaries to give them a chance to see the official torch up close. She said: “Having been privileged with the honour of running with the flame, I decided to take the torch to as many schools and children events as possible to allow children to be involved in the whole Olympic experience and give them the chance to see, hold and have their picture taken with the torch.” Read this week's Times for the full story.

This story is not now about this lady (one of two from Braintree and we should be proud of them both), it's about the fact that she, and the other torch bearer, is taking the torch around schools and showing it and the story of it, and its symbolism, to the children. These children are too young to have issues. She is spreading the word of the Olympic message and hopefully these children will be prompted to take up an interest in sport, stop playing on their phones and their x boxes, and live healthier life styles which will contribute to their personal well being and the well being of us all... More stories around the Olympics please!
