Braintree: Fears over A120 dualling and housing plans
Plans to dual the notorious A120 and build two housing estates the size of Witham would cause traffic chaos, it is feared.
Gateway 120 wants to build 11,000 homes in two developments – one on the border of Braintree and the other next to Marks Tey.
It has offered to spend £128million to provide dual carriageway from the A12 as far as Coggeshall, and from Bradwell to Braintree’s Galleys Corner.
James Abbott, district councillor for Bradwell, said: “It is really equivalent to another Witham but spread along the two ends of the A120.
“The A120 needs to be made safer but without massive development which will take the area back to square one and could even make it worse.
“The assumption is that the new cars from the developments will go onto the A120 and the A12, but they will also go onto local roads.
“I think we should all be very cautious about projections and promises made by developers.”

If the developers pay for it their "price" is 11,000 houses plus a load of other development that will increase traffic massively. And they are not even committing to improve the whole section from Braintree to the A12.
Its the developers that want to have their cake and eat it.

If the incinerator project goes ahead, I can't imagine thousands of people wanting to move downwind. Think of all the pollution from both the incinerator and the large rubbish lorries.

The answer to the A120 is not to build new houses!!!! There is nothing wrong with our roads, it's the councils planning that's policy out of control!
