Braintree district: Spectators told to arrive early for Olympic torch
6:16pm Monday 25th June 2012 in News
Spectators wanting a glimpse of the Olympic torch are being urged to get into position early when the relay arrives next week.
The torch relay will stop off in Hatfield Peverel next Friday on its only stop in our district.
With parking spaces limited and traffic likely to be heavy, residents are being advised to make their plans well in advance.
A Braintree Council spokesman said: “We are advising all visitors to arrive by 8am as reports from other areas indicate the convoy has arrived between 15 and 30 minutes before the relay starts to drop off the torchbearers and get set up.
“This, along with potential tailbacks to get into our event car park, could mean that people arriving late are not able to get situated in time and might miss out.”
The nine minutes during which the flame is carried through the streets of Hatfield Peverel will be the only chance to see the torch in Braintree district.
The relay will start in Gleneagles Way at 8.44am and continue along Maldon Road, ending at the junction with Ulting Road at 8.53am.
