A man was released without charge after police arrested him on suspicion of shoplifting in a town centre shop.

Police were contacted shortly before 1pm yesterday after reports a man had stolen from WHSmith in George Yard shopping centre, Braintree.

A 26-year-old Braintree man was arrested on suspicion of theft, but later released him without charge after the shop was unable to confirm if anything was stolen.
