Witham: Kelvedon celebrates its own diamond jubilee
6:00pm Friday 22nd June 2012 in News
Kelvedon is celebrating two diamond jubilees this year with an annual summer fete.
The fete at St Mary's Church, on July 7, will mark 60 years since the church's tenor bell was hung in St Mary’s tower, as well as the Queen’s 60 years on the throne.
To celebrate, there will be a competition to find the most creatively decorated jubilee hat as well as a ‘Ding Dong Bell’ stall to mark the church’s tenor bell, which was originally cast for the Festival of Britain in 1951.
The hat competition will be judged in two classes - children up to 11 years old and adults.
A jubilee hat making workshop will be held at the church on Sunday 24 June, from 4pm.
All proceeds from the fete will go to the upkeep of the 12th century St Mary's Church and its bells.
