Cyclists are being warned to keep their bikes locked and secured after a number of recent thefts.

A black and red BMX, valued at £170, was taken from Weavers Park, in Coggeshall Road, Braintree, on Friday night at 10.15pm.

On Saturday night, between 9pm and 11pm, a £600 black Saracen Morzine racing bike was taken from outside the Bocking Arts Theatre, in Bocking End.

The bike was secured, but thieves removed it by smashing the lock.

PC Chris Philpott said: “Thefts of pedal cycles have remained quite constant, but people can help themselves by making sure they padlock their bikes up and leave them in lit areas.”
