Labour have gained two seats from the Conservatives after yesterday's election to choose three new district councillors.
Former councillor Eric Lynch returns to office after winning 46.5% of the vote in Braintree East.
In Braintree South, Labour candidate Martin Green won just over 50% of the vote, overcoming Conservative Abi Olumbori and Green candidate Timothy Reeve.
The Tories held the Great Notley and Braintree West ward, with candidate Frankie Ricci winning 54.3%.
The by-election was triggered by the resignations of three Conservative councillors, Stephen Sandbrook, Claire Sandbrook and David Messer.
