DEVELOPERS are hoping to build a 31-bedroom retirement home on an old Government building site.
McCarthy and Stone, which specialises in retirement developments, plans to build on the previous Braintree District Council buildings in Panfield Lane.
The developers have consulted with nearby residents and are preparing to submit a planning application in April.
“Knowing what the public want is very important and some of the people we have consulted have genuine concerns so we wanted to try and get as many opinions as possible,” said Sue Kolkowski, lead architect.
“The site is not used for anything at the moment so most people have been positive about the plans as they would rather see something there than not.”
Residents’ concerns centre around sunlight being stopped from reaching front and back gardens.
The plans show 22 one-bedroom flats and nine two-bedroom flats.
