Witham: Action demanded to solve parking problems

David Bigg wants actions instead of just words David Bigg wants actions instead of just words

Better public transport options would help ease parking congestion problems in Witham, according to frustrated residents and commuters.

Last week the town council resolved to prioritise introducing parking restrictions on the Moat Farm estate, which would see on-street parking banned on each side of the road for an hour a day.

But train users are demanding that provisions are made to improve the parking situation before restrictions are brought in.

David Bigg, chairman of the Witham and Braintree Rail Users Association, said: “A quick fix is having bus services running until at least 10pm."

Full story in this week's Witham and Braintree Times.

Why do people think that they have an automatic right to park outside their house?

Every road user has to same right to park wherever they want. Most sane, rationally minded people accept this. Are you telling me that whenever you drive anywhere (for example to visit relatives), you never park in anyone else's street!?

The law in this country says that you are wrong.

By the way, I have always parked in the station car park at Witham because I didn't know that there was free on-street parking available at Moat Farm. But now I do, so thank you for bringing it to my attention.

There isn't a Moat Farm Estate in Witham, only Moat Farm Chase in Chipping Hill and you could hardly park a car anong there if you wanted to..

For your information, I always park in full accordance with the law. Not that it's any of your business.

If you're unhappy with the law in this country, then I suggest you speak to your MP. Either way, I would appreciate it if you could stop making assumptions and personal insults about me. Generally, people only resort to such tactics when they know that they are losing an argument, so I will consider this discussion over and move on now.

I think the Moat Farm Estate is Chelmer and Armond Road area.

Perhaps if people didn't have to commute to earn money, it might alleviate the parking issue. But then again, people do love a good moan about parking, especially when residents think they own the street, and not just their house.
Jodaius, don't encourage the use of Priti Patel, she might rack up a £1000 phone bill when dealing with it, to no avail!
