Two men believe they are lucky to be alive after a fire devastated the ground floor of their home.
James Hindley, and Angus McGregor, 44, were preparing dinner in the at their house, in Coggeshall Road, Stisted, at around 8.45pm on Monday when an open fire in their living room got out of control.
Mr McGregor tried to fight the flames but was overcome by smoke and collapsed in the hallway.
He was treated by ambulance crews at the scene for smoke inhalation but did not attend hospital.
He said: “It was absolutely terrifying.
