Braintree: Newborn may have brain damage after birth disaster
A newborn baby may have brain damage after his mum, who needed an emergency caesarean, had to wait almost two hours for an ambulance.
Braintree couple Sarah Jenkins and Jamie Murray feel they have been “failed” by the NHS after what should have been a straight-forward birth in Braintree ended with baby Riley Murray being starved of oxygen and eventually being taken to intensive care at Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge.
On Tuesday, January 3, Ms Jenkins’ waters broke shortly after 6pm at the WJC Birth Centre, Rayne Road.
At 8pm an ambulance was called to take her to Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford, for an emergency caesarean, but the couple claim they had to wait until 9.45pm for it to turn up.
An East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust spokesman said: “We launched a full internal investigation last week."
